In April, Hope & May were delighted to host our latest Leaders Lunch, bringing together charity leaders for an open and informal discussion on some of the most pressing issues facing the sector today.
This marked the second event in our Leaders Lunch series, designed to create a space where peers can share experiences, exchange ideas, and explore challenges collaboratively. We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of NCVO, with special thanks to Molly Prentice and Nick Gibson for their contribution to the discussion.
Preparing for Changes in Data Protection
A key focus of the lunch was the evolving landscape of data protection law and what it means for charities. With changes on the horizon, the session provided an opportunity to share insights and help organisations begin preparing for what lies ahead.
In particular, discussion touched on proposed changes to fundraising practices, including the much-debated soft opt-in. As this remains an area of ongoing development, it is something we continue to monitor closely, ensuring charities are equipped with the latest guidance.
We also explored the anticipated restructuring of the regulator later this year. While details are still emerging, there is potential for this to influence how breaches and infringements are managed. As always, we will keep a close eye on developments and share updates with the sector as they unfold.
Supporting Charities to Stay Compliant
At Hope & May, our focus remains on helping charities navigate these complexities with confidence. We provide practical, tailored support to ensure organisations meet their obligations under data protection law.
Our work is endorsed by leading sector bodies including NCVO, ACEVO, Lloyds Bank Foundation and Directory of Social Change.
From providing official Data Protection Officer (DPO) representation, to conducting compliance audits and delivering training, we have supported more than 1,000 charities to strengthen their data protection practices.
A Space for Shared Learning
The Leaders Lunch once again demonstrated the value of creating space for open, honest conversation. By bringing together sector leaders in an informal setting, we can collectively explore challenges, share perspectives, and build greater confidence in navigating change.
We would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to such a thoughtful and engaging discussion. If you would like to learn more about how Hope & May can support your organisation, or to join a future Leaders Lunch, please do get in touch.Â
